A realistic and simultaneously impressive story about a modern-day Oliver Twist. The main character is a ten-year-old boy, who lives in the poor Ukraine village. A former circus artist comes to the village and buys the boy and his older sister from their parents in promising a successful career for them in the circus. He smuggles both children across the border to Berlin, where he sells the girl to a brothel and teaches the boy to steal and pickpocket. Long-forgotten feelings and dreams make their way through to the heartless machinations of children trading.
