The tradesman Kulajda is having lunch and is maddened by an article he is reading about an audacious theft. He decides to track the thief down on his own. After he leaves the flat, his wife hurries off to see her admirer, the baron. They meet in the Chotka gardens. The baron invites her to his flat but his offer is turned down. The baron then steals into the home of his beloved, puts the servant to sleep and waits for Mrs. Kulajda to return home. The self-styled detective Kulajda is meanwhile thrown out of a robber's pub where he had been making his inquiries. His wife returns home and gets changed in front of the mirror. Her admirer is hiding behind the curtain. She is about to give in to his gentle charms but her husband returns. The baron hides on the balcony. The robbers find the baron's purse and jacket on the pavement outside the house. The husband discovers the seducer and the cunning man pretends that he has been sleepwalking. The husband gives him back his jacket and even feels sorry for him.
