Four weary old bachelors are driving back from a party. They fall asleep on the divan and they dream that fairies are dancing around them - a symbol of nuptials. In the morning, however, they swear that they will never marry. Hardly a year goes by and one of them, engineer Hanč, breaks his promise. He gets an invitation to another bachelors' party and he tries to hide it from his wife Běla. Běla finds out the real reason for his departure and she drives by car to the hotel where the party is being held and arrives before he does. She rents out the room next door and she sees the four friends together; she also notices her husband take off his wedding ring. At midnight Běla pretends that she has been attacked and she runs out of her room. Everyone starts searching her room and they suddenly find her photograph with her head torn off. In the morning Hanč finds the rest of the photograph. He realises he has been found out and he goes to see her in her room.
