Student Jindřich Bukovský has inherited an old castle from his eccentric uncle. During his first visit to the castle and its romantic surroundings, he meets the village girl Drahuška whose grandmother was the original owner of the castle but it was taken away from her by Jindřich's uncle. The student, in his attempts to make amends, offers for Drahuška and her grandmother to move back into the castle again. The cunning actress Lilly, however, wants to lay her hands on Jindřich's property. She tries to get rid of Drahuška but when she does not succeed and when she realises that Jindřich really loves this simple girl, she gives up. Drahuška then discovers that, according to a secret appendix to the uncle's will, she has also inherited a substantial amount of property and she then marries her beloved Jindřich.
