Synopsis

Ella Horská, a secretary who was abandoned by her lover, engineer Karel Rubeš, gives birth to a daughter, Květa. Year later Ella lives humbly as a seamstress; the wealthy Karel had married in the meantime but, after the death of his sons and his wife, he is now alone. Květa has now become a successful school pupil. Her professor recommends her to the factory owner Frank as a secretary. In Prague Květa makes the acquaintance of the factory owner's nephew, the handsome Oskar whose courtship she must reject. The factory owner's son Viktor, a racing driver, soon wins her affections. When Oskar names Květa as his lover in front of Viktor, the latter begins avoiding her. The unhappy Květa, whose mother needs money for spa treatment, finally accepts an offer of marriage from Viktor's father. Květa and Ella, staying at the spa, are visited first by Frank and then by Karel who is still the cause of Ella's anger. News then reaches them at the spa that Viktor has been injured while practising for a race. Everyone returns to Prague. Karel and Ella make up and Frank consents for Viktor to marry Květa.
