The official Skřivan is unsatisfied with what his wife's cooking. She in turns is not pleased that their son is interested in the daughter of the poor widow in the next-door apartment. When she calls on the widow, to put an end to their son's acquaintanceship, she is surprised by the number of treats on her table. The aroma even entices the official and everyone sits down to a feast. Then they learn the secret of this aroma – the widow Nováková uses Sana margarine.
