Unfinished film.

Synopsis

The hero of the story is the unemployed workman Rataj abandoned by his daughter Marcela who has gone to seek a better life on the streets. Rataj chances upon a travelling variety theatre where he sees several scenes which might have been taken from his own life; he decides to have his fortune told. The forecast appears to be favourable since Rataj leaves the fortune-teller's tent with a big smile on his face.

Note

The short story was shot as an experimental film in which Vladislav Vančura was to prove his directing skills for future independent work on the feature film On the Sunny Side (1933). Only a fragment of the film has survived – the takes from scenes 11 and 14.
