The young nephew of the general director of a porcelain factory, Jan Konvalinka, steps in for his uncle, but he spends more time chasing women than working. A beautiful unknown woman, who does not like Konvalinka's wooing, requests a respectably looking gentleman to pose as her husband, thereby repulsing the obtrusive suitor. Her savior is the small clerk Popelka, who recognizes Jan as his superior. On account of the beauty of his wife Popelka is promoted. The real Mrs. Popelková, a harridan who completely dominates her husband, brings from the funeral of a relative Eva, the daughter of the deceased, whose marriage is a stipulation for her share of the inheritance. In the meantime Jan finds out that the beautiful unknown woman is the wife of another factory employee and he wants to fire Popelka on grounds of fraud. In Popelka's apartment, however, he meets Eva, and this time takes her to be Mrs. Popelková. Eva lets him mistake her identity and accepts his advances. The true Mrs. Popelková receives a beautiful bouquet from Jan with a note of affection attached. True to her character she takes the young man to task and Popelka is fired. Niece Eva, however, finds the way to save her uncle. Jan becomes engaged to her and Popelka becomes the factory's director.
The film was originally directed by Zvonimir Rogoz, he resigned from the project a week before the end of filming, and Jan Svoboda finished the work on the film. An incomplete version of the film has been preserved.
