Synopsis

Design engineer Viktor Kovařík and racing-driver Jan Horn are close colleagues and also good friends. Their love for the same girl, however, places them on opposing sides. Anna shows a preference for Viktor and the distraught Jan initially tries to break up the union but he finally manages to suppress his pain and remains friends with both of them, now newly-weds. The Horn-Kovařík duo take part in another race but are involved in an accident. Horn gets away with light injuries but his colleague remains in a wheelchair. Viktor finds it difficult to come to terms with his predicament and his inactivity makes him increasingly uneasy. He is most afraid of restricting his young wife. While Anna refuses the freedom he offers her, Viktor begins acting suspiciously towards her and she finds refuge in Jan's company. After a while she realises that she is not indifferent to Jan's enduring love for her and she insists that he stop coming to visit their house. Anna's husband understands her grief and himself suggests that she goes to support Horn at a race in his stead. While the happy couple are celebrating Horn's victory, Viktor commits suicide.
