The inhabitants of Řepochrásty are in uproar. A motorway is to pass right by the village and the farmers are afraid of losing some of their fields. The young postmaster explains to them the advantages of new road networks. Mrs Kačka is fond of the postmaster and is keen for him to marry her daughter Mařenka. Mařenka meets a man called Barták on a visit to Prague but does not tell him her real name. When she returns home she doesn't have the courage to admit the truth to him. The letters which arrive for her poste restante in Řepochrásty are picked up by her friend from Prague who has come to visit her. One day Barták comes to Řepochrásty to supervise the work on the motorway. Problems arise as a result of misunderstandings caused by the swapped identities and threaten the smooth path of young love. Then Mrs Kačka steps in and all is happily explained.
