Synopsis

Actor Robert Holan, a man pampered by women, meets the beautiful Marta on the terrace of the Radio Palace. He does not know that she is blind and that she has a twin called Helena. When he goes to find Marta's lost veil, the girl leaves. Holan catches sight of Helena in the corridor and finds out her name from a friend. Marta is enchanted by Holan's voice and she is now determined to undergo an operation on her eyes. Helena is betrothed to Pavel Průša, an eye doctor. She is surprised to receive a letter in which Holan asks to meet her. After a romantic walk, Helena finds that she is in love. When Holan returns the veil, she realises that he has confused her with Marta. She is heartbroken and breaks off the relationship which is only now beginning to show promise. Marta's operation is successful and her sight is returned, however, for the time being she must only walk in the twilight. The desperate Holan, now in love for the first time, goes to see Helena. At the flat he meets Marta who realises that the actor is in love with her sister and she sends him away. The vexed Holan does not understand her actions and pulls open the curtains, flooding the room with light. Marta, blinding sun light in her face, finds herself back in the hospital. When she is recovering once more, she realises that it is Pavel whom she loves and thus leaves the way clear for Helena and Holan.
