Grandmother tells her grandchildren fairy tales. One of them is about how a weaver lived happily with his family in a cottage in Žirovnice. However, then textile production declined and the family fell into poverty. At that time, a young man came to visit who had learned to make buttons – chamrds – from mother-of-pearl in the world, and he wants them to try it together. He likes the weaver's daughter, so he settles in Žirovnice. The weaver cuts flat rings out of clam shells and drills holes in them. Button making brought new livelihood to the region. Documentary footage shows the production of buttons, their grinding and finishing, sewing on hard paper cartons, packaging and shipping. There are various cut buttons and other mother of pearl items such as boxes, clasps and the like.
