Helena Málková is bored at home because her husband Petr is often away on business trips. She therefore arranges with her brother Jiří that she will help out in his flower shop. There she meets Richard Herbert, a man of the world who she thinks will make her dreams of an exciting life come true. Therefore she easily falls for his courtship and moves into his apartment. Jiří is Petr's friend and therefore is much dismayed by the whole affair. He invites Helena out for dinner in a luxurious establishment, where she sees Richard in the company of his wife. Helena, who had been told by Richard he was unmarried, is miserable and goes back to his apartment. One of Richard's former lovers, Karla, turns up at the apartment and takes Helena back to her place. Karla then meets Richard's wife Luisa, who admits to tolerating her husband's affairs in order to keep the marriage together. The two women reach an agreement. Richard finds Luisa waiting in the apartment; she proposes they go on holiday together. Karla has started a relationship with Jiří. Petr goes to see Helena and she is happy to return to her faithful and loving husband.
