One night Karel Pinc returns from a night on the town. His room-mate, the musician Ferda, gets back even later, drunk. Together they mirthfully recall how Karel cut three buttons off the councillor's coat without him knowing. Karel, a salesman in a men's clothing shop, does not get to work in good shape. But he nevertheless tells his boss that one day he will take over the shop from him. The older man points out how much Karel still has to learn. Karel must realise, he says, that he represents the business even outside working hours. That means he will dress smartly and will not talk slightingly of the things he sells. Also his behaviour with his girlfriend is not in order. Karel is ashamed of his mistakes. Finally he creeps into the cafe cloakroom and sews the buttons back onto the councillor's coat.
The filming started in autumn 1943. The negative of the finished film was burnt during a fire at the laboratories in February 1944. It was filmed again in October 1944. The film was meant only for closed film performances in the Baťa companies.
