The young civil defence instructor Kocourek can see that the students are being bored by his lecture. To change this, he animates his lecture with stories about various adventures, in which he involves the participants of the course. Young Eva is going to a picnic with her boyfriend Honza. Because she wants to get an especially interesting photo, she makes him climb onto a rock. He slips and falls, breaking his arm. The student, Eva, admits that she doesn't know what she would do in such situation. The office-clerk Makovec is smoking at work, casually throwing the matches into a bin full of paper. He also doesn't have any idea what he would do with the fire that would break out because of that. To mother Vejvodová, who is taking the course together with her two sons, Kocourek describes the story in which the young boys play with inflammable film, putting their health in danger. Mr Vytrval is incompetently trying to fix a running water tap and almost causes a flood. Now the participants understand the importance of installing the civil defence patrols, needed not only in the times of clearing up the effects of war. They all enthusiastically join the activities of this organization.
