It's Christmas Eve. The director comes to the office and shows clerk Konopásek the gifts which he bought for his family. Then the two of them settle some papers so they don't have any unfinished work. The director notices that Konopásek keeps going to the cupboard with office stationery. He finally stops him and asks him openly what he is doing. Konopásek embarrassedly admits that he took some potato starch wafers used for pasting letters for his children. The director is shocked to learn that someone should take such a tasteless thing for food and he feels sorry for the poor subordinate. He presents him with quite a big banknote and orders him to use it to make a proper Christmas Eve meal for his family. Konopásek is glad and sighs to himself in relief because his family will be happy at least for one night.
