Grandmother is telling her granddaughter a story which happened almost twenty years ago. It is a story about the girl's mother, the old lady's step-daughter Bláža. Thirteen year old Bláža is called back from a summer camp with the news of her little brother's birth. Only when she arrives home does the girl find out that her mother died giving birth and that the new-born baby is in a sanatorium. From one day to the next, the girl who had no care in the world has to start looking after their home. Her favourite book about Robinson Crusoe, the shipwrecked sailor on a deserted island, helps her deal with the situation. Her father, a taxi driver, helps her in the difficult situation and joins her "Little Girl Robinson Crusoe" game. Tonička, the neighbours' maid who teaches her how to do housework is a great support for Bláža. The holidays are over and Bláža, who is a gifted pupil, would love to go back to school. But then her little brother would have to be sent to a foundling hospital so the girl decides to interrupt her studies. Then Tonička makes an agreement with the girl's father to start looking after their family and in time becomes girl's new mother. Now Bláža can finish her studies. After the grandmother leaves the granddaughter makes a phone call to her mother at work and proudly declares that she also is as independent as a little Little Girl Robinson Crusoe.
