The truck driver Jan Koubek is not really assiduous. Filling his tire with air at the gas station, he forgets to control the pressure. Thus it happens that the overinflated tire bursts on the road and Koubek's truck ends up in a ditch. Koubek is lucky. A passing driver stops and pulls him out with his car. On the way, Koubek stops in the roadside inn. He drinks some beer and then fails to resist hard alcohol. That does not prevent him from getting back into the truck and driving on. Intoxicated, he drives the wrong way and causes a crash with an oncoming car. Koubek does not stop; he steps on the gas and drives off. The accident victims are helped by the witnesses of the car crash and assist the investigators in their search for the perpetrator. Koubek tries to hide the evidence of the crash in his garage. Falling asleep at home, he has a nightmare. He realizes his guilt and decides to report himself to the police the very next day. The police, however, are already at his door, ringing the bell.
