A young man is found wounded after a car crash. With his arm in plaster he sits in the interrogation room being questioned by a police major. The young man is the lathe-worker Tony Vacek. A bad domestic situation had driven him towards a gang of layabouts. The gang members will do anything for money. Tony is the only one with a driving licence and so is forced to take the others to a cottage which they intend to burgle. They are discovered and Tony crashes the car during their escape. His gang "friends" leave him wounded and unconscious in the car and run off. The interrogator, after discovering all the facts, asks his colleagues from the factory, members of the Socialist Youth Movement, to give him a character reference. The happy young man is then relieved to hear in court that he has been let off with a conditional sentence.
