Worker Novák submits his proposal of a new high-frequency brake of versatile use to the innovations officer Rejsek. The file with the documentation on the invention goes from hand to hand in the factory, but the responsible officers are reluctant to it. They do not like the idea that they would have to change their run-of-the-mill work and introduce new technology and production. Therefore they turn down the invention without even studying the documents. Novák is in despair and creates a prototype to demonstrate that his brake can stop any machine. But everybody considers him an eccentric which, in the end, causes Novák throw away his invention. The prototype is found by the chief technologist who hides it in his briefcase. After working hours, the factory director offers the technical deputy and the technologist a ride home. However, his brakes fail during the drive and Novák's machine stops the car which had been out of control. Novák, who had come upon them on his bicycle, is promised by the three men that now they are going to be concerned with his invention.
