Václav Hrdlička is restless. Having no wife or children, he lives in a cheerless dormitory and borrows money. His master at work reproaches him, everybody laughs at him, no one trusts him and people nickname him Tourist [Turista] for his unsteadiness. Václav is fond of the publican Věra and she cares for him, too. However, Václav is unreliable and whenever his partner needs him the most, he is not there. Věra would like to settle down finally and is tired of their relationship, giving the last chance to the man when she moves to a new apartment. However, Václav disappoints once more. Věra breaks up with him and the sad Tourist sets off again. On the train, he reveals his secret wishes to an unknown girl, telling her he is just coming from home and his second son was just born.
