Five adolescent girls from Uherské Hradiště regularly meet after school and rehearse various puppet fairytales. Anička is always accompanied by her little sister Mirka, whom she takes care of. The girls make puppets of paper and pieces of rag, and thus call their ensemble "Rag Puppets." Zdena, the oldest in the group, is a bit conceited, criticizing everything while also lazy and quarrelsome. One day, the ensemble is invited to perform in the new cultural house in Šumice. This, however, does not suit Zdena's plans, for she had arranged a date with a boy. The other girls decide to perform without her but Zdena changes her mind and, at the last moment, jumps aboard the bus where the whole ensemble is already sitting. The auditorium is full of little children. They love the fairytales and applaud for several encores. The girls thus miss their bus. Evening is coming and Zdena manages to catch a lorry, which loads the girls, their decorations and the suitcase with the puppets and takes them home. The enthusiastic girls say good-bye to each other cheerfully, for they have long forgiven Zdena.
