Synopsis

Twenty-year old Helena is a salesgirl at a florist's and is dating Pepík Cajthaml. The girl is unhappy with her "ordinary" existence and often escapes into a fantasy world of her own. On Saturday morning, she can't bear to part with her dream of being a cosmonaut. On her way to work, she meets the elegant Sylaba, her neighbour who is an assistant at the Law Faculty. He offers to take her for an afternoon trip to the river Berounka in his car. In her imagination, Helena can immediately see herself at his side on the beach. A moment later she is a famous singer with platinum blond hair. She is late for work again but manager Sirůček forgives her and offers her a ride on his motorbike. Helena daydreams again, envisaging herself next to her balding superior as a perfect housewife and mother of quadruplets. Pepík waits for her after work with tickets for a football match. The couple's visit to the stadium ends with a quarrel. Helena gets into Sylaba's car and goes off with him to the country. At the cottage, they meet Sylaba's girlfriend and Helena quickly sobers up from her dreams. She returns to Prague on her own. She misses Pepík. Pepík knows his girlfriend well and when he calls her from the phone booth outside her house, Helena runs out and falls into his arms.

Note

The film´s action is shot in black-and-white; Helena´s dreams are in colour and occur against a suggested background setting.
