The boy César lives in a disconsolate family. His father drinks and excuses himself with the assertion that, under another regime, he could have been "somebody". The sensitive boy makes friends with a girl named Eva and indulges in day-dreaming. In one dream he flies, in another, he is a teacher, in yet another he marries Eva or extinguishes a car on fire, and wants to become a driver. But most of all he dreams that his father goes normally to work again. Eva is about to leave with her parents but César does not catch up to say good-bye. In another dream, he invents a remedy for burns. In the bitter reality, however, he becomes aware that before he grows up, he is "in it" with his father.
