Three workmen live in a caravan on the edge of Prague. Two are still very young and their older colleague Dobeš sometimes tells them about his experiences in France in the nineteen-thirties. The complex-ridden Shorty [Pinďa] is also much impressed by the fictitious sexual and life experiences recounted by the apparent lady-killer Pavel. The two young men together imagine the bustle of cities in the West, where you can hear the music of Louis Armstrong on the streets. Dobeš no longer wants much out of life and is simply looking forward to the opening of a pub nearby. Shorty stays in the caravan. Pavel sets off for the centre of Prague. After a while, however, he returns, apparently disappointed.
