Three Czech scientists – professors of physiology, morphology and microbiology – receive a prestigious scientific award for their common discovery of little ball corpuscles causing joy in humans. The introduction of their treatise is dedicated to "František, teacher and friend" whose identity remains hidden from the public. The scientists had a common secret passion. From time to time, they excused themselves at their work places and secretly left for the city suburbs. On the top of a grassy hill, they made a little hollow, produced sacks with marbles from their cases and tried to play. One day, a little unkempt boy named František appeared on the hill and reproached the three men for their style of play and petty cheating. The scientists were first offended but eventually accepted his advice and played with him, and even though František skinned them of all their marbles, they agreed to yet another meetings. Thus, after some time, the aforementioned dedication appeared on the first page of their scientific treatise...
