The war is raging on and a starving refugee seeks shelter in a deep underground bunker with dead soldiers lying in it. In the knapsack of one of them, he finds hard bread and eats part of it hungrily. He spots a ring on a finger of one of the men, hesitates for a while, but then tries to pull it from the soldier's finger. He does not succeed and moreover finds out that the soldier is still alive. The soldier wants to get out of the bunker, but the refugee does not want to hold himself up taking care of the man. Both men first scuffle but then begin to help each other. The refugee tosses up a rope and holds the soldier on his own shoulders to help him climb up. All of a sudden, there is the sound of shooting and the soldier falls back, dead. The refugee listens to the roar of the passing tanks and desperately looks up to the inaccessible entrance of the bunker.
