The young Joseph Neudenk dreams of becoming a soldier, wearing a uniform and participating in a military training. He practices shooting and wears a uniform. At a village fete he is attracted to a target range. The boy is successful, but is surprised when the targets turn into live people with blood streaming from their chests. When he comes home, he sees that even his mother has a spot of blood on her white apron. The boy decides not to shoot again. But the times are changing and because the young soldier refuses to fulfil the order to shoot is sentenced to a month of prison. The little soldier does not understand why the law changes from Monday to Sunday...
