A Russian textile trader Ogudalov gets stuck in a roadside inn because of a blizzard. The next day he will be tried for bigamy in the district city. The inn-keeper puts him up in a room shared by a married couple. When the lamp is put out, bed-bugs start to bother the people and nobody can sleep. Persian powder offered by Ogudalov does not help, so they get up and decide to play cards. Ogudalov introduced himself as a doctor, and the young couple Fedja and Zinotshka makes him to examine the good looking wife. Ogudalov likes flirting with Zinotshka, especially when her husband leaves to order some tea. Ogudalov recommends Zina to go to a spa and her husband pays for the specialist advice by a deliberate losing to him in the card game. In the end of a nicely spent night, Fedja introduces himself as a prosecutor who is expected to have two court proceedings in the district court - one of them is a trial with a silly bigamist. Shocked Ogudalov goes off in a faint.
