The General of the Nazi SS army Tanz left his military driver Hartman waiting in a car in front of the house which he called at with a street walker. In half an hour he invited his subordinate up. The soldier Hartman entered the flat and after turning on the light in a dark room he found out that the young woman was laying on bed stabbed to death and the General was praying under the crucifix. Hartman gets hold of the blood-stained knife at the General's hint. The General wants to know his opinion of the event. The driver recalls two similar murders committed not long ago in Warsaw and Paris - the General was always near by. Being interrogating by Colonel Müller then Hartman even testified to false alibi of the General of one of the nights. The General places a gun in front of him and is telling an invented story of a soldier who shoots himself dead and by supposititious suicide of bad conscience he saves his General. Hartman refuses this proposal and another one to abscond... On the contrary he attempts to shoot dead evidently abnormal General. But the General's gun is charged only with practice charges. Shocked Hartman who grasped that he had to be sacrificed is breaking down. The General accuses him of cowardice and in cold blood he kills him with another weapon.
In the opening title, it is stated that the event took place on the 1st of December 1942. In his story the general says that we are in 1943.
