A doctor is taking his leave of the merchant Kryštof. He promises to carry out a urine analysis for him in twenty-four hours. He comes back the next day together with a man wearing a hooded coat. The doctor informs the merchant that his urine showed no sign of sickness but he has nonetheless brought leeches and wants to let the patient's blood. The man in the hood is the mayor and welcomes the merchant to the town, but he soon starts rudely asking the guest if anyone helped him free his trapped horse-carriage on his last visit three months before. The merchant remembers that he asked a passing pauper for help. The mayor drops his hypocritical smile and coldly informs the man that he has been in contact with a leper. With a gun in his hand he forces the merchant to tie the bell they have brought onto his neck as a warning for everybody he meets. His goods will all be confiscated and burned. Finally they ruthlessly banish the man from the town.
