The year of 1974 saw the release of two – no less – “technophobic” comedies which tackled the unhealthy aspects of computer technology. Alongside Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje! (Joachim, Put Him into the Machine!) – a story about the bizarre influence of a computer-generated biorhythm chart on the life of a shy tractor driver, directed by Oldřich Lipský – cinemagoers were also treated to this romantic comedy by screenwriter and director Petr Schulhoff. Its protagonists are husband and wife Viktor and Marta (real-life spouses Vlastimil Brodský and Jana Brejchová) who, after having lived together happily for a decade, gain the sense that due to their dissimilar natures they are a couple that is absolutely mismatched. Taking the example of their friend Alena (Iva Janžurová), they decide to pay a visit to the cybernetic institute where a computer recommends the ideal partner for each of them. The new partners, however, prove even more unsuitable than the original ones… This well turned out and, in its day, thematically rather peculiar picture, has remained entertaining to this day, partly thanks to its superb cast of performers.
Marta and Viktor Tomáš celebrate the tenth anniversary of their wedding half-heartedly. They both think they don't suit together. While visiting Marta's friend Alena, who just got married for the third time, they learn an interesting thing. It was a computer which selected a husband for Alena and she claims she is happy. The couple gets off after certain hesitation to a cybernetic institute, where the computer tells them that living together is a risk for them. At the same time the computer selects them ideal partners - Mrs Tuchlová, a doctor for Viktor, and Petr Karát, a music composer for Marta. By a coincidence Viktor and Marta meet wrong people. The plumber Franta is not right for Marta. But next time she meets the romantic composer and their excellent relationship seems to be ideal. Viktor is happy with the rational medical doctor Soňa who came to the meeting instead of Mrs Tuchlová. Marta wants to solve the situation and she invites home Mrs Tuchlová who does not know anything. In the end they meet at home all included the jilted lover Franta. Marta and Viktor realize in the mess which arose at the meeting that the differences of their characters bring them zest and joy for life and they end up together. After some time they are walking around the Old Town Square. Marta is disappointed that Viktor brought her a quarter of delicious Hungarian salami instead of a piece of antique. All of a sudden they see a bride and a groom coming out of the town hall - it is Petr Karát and Soňa Brčková.
