An old man in a restaurant revives when a big man in a fur cap happens to take seat beside him and begins a conversation. The man is called Semjon, he works as a timberjack in the Urals region and he has come to town to get some spare parts. He will not go down with him, that slim, pretty waitress Nataša refuses to bring him a bottle of Vodka, because the ration is limited to 100 grams per person. The pensioner gives Semjon advice that Cognac is not limited. They have a dinner together and Semjon soon drinks up all the bottle without any effects. The old man complains of himself that he never took heart to win a girl and get married. Thus he passes all the time in the restaurant spending his small pension. Nataša has from time to time to calm down both men who become more and more noisy. Semjon makes the old man a present of his cap. It is already night and Nataša is cleaning the table cloths and turning up the chairs. Only Semjon, sleaping and leaning his forehead against the table is left in the room. The old man is away and there remains only the cap.
