A couple wakes up and gets dressed. An elderly man pours a glass and is going to leave. His young lover asks him to go for a walk but the man finds an excuse. A door bell rings. The man hides in the other room and the girl dressed in a dressing gown opens the door. An unknown woman searching for her husband Nikolaj Petrovič Kolpakov comes in. The girl does not admit he is just in, but in the end she admits that Kolpakov comes to visit her. The woman offends her, she presumes that her husband committed fraud in the office because of her and will be arrested. But the girl got from him as his lover only two cheap pieces of jewellery and some candies. Mrs Kolpakova forces the girl quite unscrupulously to give her other, more valuable jewellery - some presents from other suitors. Mrs Kolpakova wants to sell them and pay at least a part of the damage and protect her children against shame. Then she leaves the flat without any signs of gratitude. Kolpakov comes back to the room. But he does not answer any questions of the girl - to whom he gave such expensive presents, for whom he committed fraud. Then he leaves without saying a word.
