Long-time screenwriter Ota Hofman is most particularly connected with the creation of children’s features directed by Jindřich Polák. However, he also worked with Karel Kachyňa. Over 1973-1978 they realised four features together: teenage romance Láska (Love, 1973), children’s retro title Robinsonka (The Girl Robinson, 1974), fairytale Malá mořská víla (Little Mermaid, 1976) and comedy romance Setkání v červenci (Meeting in July, 1978). This feature lightly approaches a theme considered a little bold for the time – a love romance between a teacher and her student. High school student Jakub (the then 23-year-old Oldřich Kaiser) has to resit an English language exam, and to get him ready his wealthy parents pay for him to attend a holiday language course. It turns out that the course is being headed by the despised, divorced teacher Klára (Daniela Kolářová), the person who failed Jakub in his exam. But Klára’s five-year-old son (Tomáš Holý) is in need of a new daddy – and he is unmistakeably in favour of the unexpected feelings that arise between the apparently disparate couple.
Klára Fišerová, a divorced English teacher and mother of a five year old David, meets in a holiday language course accidentally her student whom she let fail. Jakub is also disappointed that in the course where he will study for his second examination, he will be taught again by the hated Fišerová. He decides to "pepper" her stay properly. He uses for it the teacher's little son with whom he plays all kinds of tricks. The vivid David likes Jakub very much as well as all the tricks they play together. In the end, just due to David's influence Klára and Jakub will be more than a teacher and a student. Klára has a serious relationship with a forty years old Eda. She visits him together with David and Jakub in the house where he stays with his mother. Eda and his mother too don't like David and therefore they suggest to Klára to send the son to her mother. After this snobbish visit Klára realizes that she does not love Eda and she accepts Jakub's pure love. She strolls with him the whole night. Jakub and Klára experience moments of pure happiness also in the following days. The small David is happy too. The older Klára realizes that this relationship cannot last forever. She decides to leave before the end of the course. But her son forces her to come back. It seems that at least for the moment everything is all right.
The film was budgeted together with the picture Waiting for the Rain, doth films were shot simultaneously.
