An ambulance rushing through the Prague night is transporting a severely wounded young man, Jiří. He has had a car accident, and also his father, working in another city, is informed about his condition. In the hospital, he meets Jiří’s mother who he left five years ago. Fear for their son breaks down the barriers between the parents and the woman invites the man to sleep over at her place. They have a chance to discuss many unsolved matters before Jiří recovers from the worst. The man used to have great problems with alcohol but solved them by a successful several-month treatment. He also apparently paid his debts from his gambling. The reported reason for leaving his wife was not his young lover, with whom he has broken up anyway in the meantime, but his effort to protect their son from his own bad conduct. The man has the same blood group as the son and immediately agrees to a transfusion. But as soon as Jiří should be allowed home, the father decides to leave. He senses very well what will be proved in no time, after the son’s return home: Jiří will never forgive him for the mother’s crying which he used to hear in his teenage years.
