The young married couple Eva and Václav Dvořák prepare for the Christmas celebration in their flat. Someone unexpectedly rings the bell. Eva’s brother Marcello has come to visit them. Eva had not seen him for a couple of years because he had been living in Italy and then West Germany. The guest has brought them a cassette player and Eva makes Václav give him one of his presents intended for her in return. It turns out to be earrings, and Marcello puts one of them on his ear. While the siblings boisterously celebrate their reunion, Václav cannot pull himself together. At night, he secretly peeps into Marcello’s suitcase and discovers a gun. He realizes that his brother-in-law is a terrorist, and grasps why he talked about a violent world revolution. Václav wants to go to the police, but Eva tries to protect her brother. Marcello begins to endanger them – and at that moment, Václav wakes up from the nightmare, happy that it was just a dream. Eva pacifies him – she has no brother Marcello; her real brother is Omar. Václav suddenly spots a man with a suitcase through the window and the doorbell rings. Everything starts all over again, as if in the dream.
