Synopsis

A young journalist by the name of Martin Werner and his student wife, Kristina, move to a new flat. At night, the QTC agency representatives come with the news that Martin has won the tender, and is to be recruited as an editor. A computer and its accessories turn the empty living room into an office from where Martin sends his news out. He meets his colleagues at regular meetings where the uncompromising editor-in-chief not only assigns them the story subjects but also determines their required tone. Martin’s pay is probably very decent and Kristina thus thinks about whether it makes any sense to pass her exams and try to finish her university studies. She exercises, consumes drinks stabilizing bioenergy and is bothered that her husband is becoming increasingly absorbed in his work. Martin is accompanied by the photographer Pavel during his news reports. It was him who put in a good word for Martin’s engagement. Kristina leaves home because instead of her, Martin must pursue a comissioned interpreter of dreams who keeps complaining about the lack of customers – today, dreams are interpreted for people by the media. The journalist realizes the extent to which he is manipulated, and revolts against his superior. He and Kristina, who he has found again, are attacked by a gang of aggresive children. Švarc takes shots of the incident and offers the journalist the photographs as proof that he was unable to hand over the assigned article on time. But Martin refuses. All the delivered computer equipment gradually disappears from the Werners’ flat.
