The only child Francek must be constantly punished by his mother in spite of all her love. He indulges in one mischief after another. The usual broom flagellation follows when he hits a cock pecking at his snack with his catapult. The father advocates Francek and gives his son three kreuzers to prove his trust in him, sending him to get tobacco. But Francek stops by the boys betting on cards and soon loses the money. He moreover loses more money which he borrowed. The other boys are angry, too, but Francek is also apparently unlucky. When the boys’ gang poaches pikes in a pool, a gamekeeper shows up. The boys run in all directions, but only Francek is caught and slapped by the gamekeeper. He knows that he will be punished at home as well. He hides and does not come home at night. His parents are worried and even the neighbours eventually help with looking for him. Francek would like to be finally respected and praised, but it is just wishful thinking again. His mum finds him in his shelter and the result is the usual punishment.
