An abstract trick film, bringing an anti-war message on the motifs of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
A searching ray of light – an idea – was born out of darkness. Other rays soon follow. They begin looking for their symbolical purpose but they, nevertheless, go astray. Misfortune and destruction follow. The worlds collapse. We can hear a voice calling for help. The first clear sound of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is heard amidst this depression. The ideas concentrate and head towards a petitioner who is granted a wish. The birth of light saves humanity through the symbol of a cross.
The film was not submitted for censorship. A screening only for the invited was held in Prague. The opening subtitles in all materials to the film are in English and are followed by an English explanatory text, the English title is Ideas in Search of Light. The film was introduced at the festival in Venice in 1938.
