The staged story Two Table Between Us by Václav Táborský about Mr. and Mrs. Horák from Prague was created as a reflection of the high divorce rate problematics. It does not aspire to be a sociological documentary, but more of a reflection of the most common causes of mutual separation. The director loosely followed the theme with They Wait Every Sunday (1962).
Wedding guests walk out of Prague's Old Town Hall. A young woman, Věra, who is walking nearby, thinks about her own wedding a few years ago and about her life together with her husband Vláďa. They got an apartment in Prague and soon lived there as a family of three – with their son Míša. But the evenings spent with them were often interrupted by a phone call from her husband's work. Vláďa would leave his wife and son alone for the night and go to the office. He himself also recollects it and tries to justify these situations by saying that he was simply too busy. However, Věra had no sympathy for him, and he became involved with another woman. The couple meets in front of a courthouse. The court rules for divorce and gives custody of little Míša to his mother. Věra and Vláďa walk out of the courthouse together, then go their separate ways.
