This film looks at the physical and spiritual impacts of emigration. In 1969, an eighteen-year-old pregnant girl and her married lover flee occupied Czechoslovakia. Their daughter is born in Norway and they establish themselves on the local theatre scene. When the girl is fifteen, however, her mother sends her away and from that point on they no longer live together. Today, the mother lives in Los Angeles, the father in Prague. The family's only contacts are via sporadic telephone conversations. The film's director endeavours tirelessly to find an answer to the question of where her true home is.
