The director’s debut is a family autobiographical drama that reconstructs one day in Czechoslovakia of the 1980s as experienced by the director when he was fourteen. The mother attends a number of meetings with officials to get permission to travel to Great Britain where her husband has emigrated. Before the mother and son are allowed to travel, the director's mother wrote her husband dozens of letters.
