Synopsis

On the stage of the Odeon theatre, a new piece with dancers and the magical shooter Krameš is rehearsed. After the rehearsal, the solo dancer, Ester, harshly turns down her jealous lover, Italian singer Tossi. The girls are in the showers when, all of a sudden, there is a loud cry from one of them - Ester has been shot in the back of her skull. Lieutenant Borůvka arrives at the theatre. It seems that the culprit must have been in the showers, since the room does not have any windows, but neither the weapon nor the cartridge-case are found. Borůvka has to compose the possible motive of the murder out of gossip. Ester received the solo due to her reported affair with the theatre director. Tossi was jealous of her, but no one saw him entering the showers. Krameš is missing his gun. During the performance, he was shooting with blanks but his container with live cartridges is nowhere to be found. In the public baths, Borůvka realizes that women bend their heads while washing their hair. Ester was thus shot from the ventilator through which one can see to the showers from the freight elevator. The only dancer who was not taking a shower and who - as Tossi's former lover and Ester's rival on the stage - had a motive to commit the crime, is Jana Sikorská, and Borůvka therefore convicts her of the murder.
