Two local bands join many others at a nationwide brass bands gala, the Second Kmoch's Kolín. One of them, named after the composer František Kmoch, is led by an enthusiastic conductor anxious to promote the love of music. His rehearsal routine is highly emotional and laced with anecdotes. The band's youngest member Vláďa has another great passion, his motorbike. The bandmaster of the local firemen's orchestra is far more determined and aspires to reach the fame of the Kmoch band. This orchestra also has the baby of the family, a boy called Vašek. The two boys are friends and choose the motorcycle races over the brass band performances. The outraged bandmasters kick them out of the bands. Each band soon finds a replacement. Vašek performs with the Kmoch's Music Kolín and Vláďa with the Firemen's Brigade Brass Band.
