At the "Virtuous Susan" inn ["U cudné Zuzany" inn], the beautiful and charming landlady Zuzana looks after her customers. Her servant Přech is helping her by filling up the wineglasses. Zuzana always takes advantage of her guests' enchantment with her to pour poison into their goblets from a ring she wears on her finger. This time the victim is a Turkish gentleman. When he dies of the poison, the two take all his belongings. Then Přech throws the man down into the cellar, to join all their previous victims. Their next victims are a knight in armour and an old nobleman. Late at night, with the help of her servant, Zuzana brews the poison from grated human skull, bats, snakes and other ingredients. Then she fills her ring with the lethal mixture. The next visitor is a young man who tries to poison Zuzana instead. They both survive each other's murder attempt and end up in bed in a passionate embrace. Her devoted but jealous servant Přech offers them two poisoned goblets of wine. He then covers the dead Zuzana's body with kisses and dies, having taken poison from her ring.
