Young hiker Bearded Weirdie Grizzly is a solitary boy. His well-off parents urge him to study, in which he is not very successful at. The young man has parted from his friends because he does not like idlers whose only interest is drinking beer. One day, after a fight with his former mates over his refusal to pay for their drinks at a pub, he comes across a bunch of young pioneers in a clearing, waiting for their leader. He has gone off to the village to get permission to put up a camp. Grizzly remembers seeing an ambulance take a young boy with a red pioneer scarf to the hospital after a car ran him down. He hesitates for a moment but then takes charge of the boys, who are soaking wet and chilled through. He teaches them how to make fire and other skills. The children are in awe of their new friend and Grizzly is happy that somebody needs him.
