Every morning Zuzana meets Zdeněk on the way to school. The boy is unaware of anything strange in the regularity of their "chance" meetings and takes the girl's behaviour for the normal friendliness of a fellow student. One day, Zdeněk receives a letter with the royalty for the first poem he has ever published. He reads his verses at the local pub to the workers who are laying new cables in the neighbourhood. One of the workers asks Zdeněk to write a poem that would express what the worker dislikes about his girlfriend. Zdeněk's piece of writing fails and he realises how difficult it is to understand the soul of another human being. He returns home enriched by the experience. In front of his house, he meets Zuzana and realizes that love has already crossing his path.
