The ambulance car crew - doctor Láznička and the driver Zdeněk stop in the evening for two men standing at a crashed motorbike. After Láznička and Zdeněk put the wounded man in the ambulance car the other man called Vácha forces them with a gun in his hand to drive towards the borders. Láznička realizes that they are two escaped prisoners. Vácha finds out, that Láznička is a candidate of the communist party. Zdeněk pretends an accident on a forest road and Vácha shoots him without mercy. The doctor Láznička has to sit behind the steering wheel now. He stops in a frontier town, he overcomes his fear and he sets off to the police station. The criminal wants to escape and save his life but he is shot by a policeman.
