An apprentice Dušan, called Lord, is very handy, but he devotes a lot of time to moonlighting in car repairs. Neither has he come in time to school, nor to trainings for a competition in lathing. Among all the boys only one new girl-apprentice Helena comes. Dušan likes her but she is nominated in the competition team to replace him. At an extended dancing lesson Helena and Dušan make friends. Dušan, who contused his legs in secretly borrowed small Krtička's patent leather shoes, accompanies her home barefoot. He goes to a competition in Kutná Hora as a substitute. All apprentices, girls and boys, and their parents meet at a final ball.
